AMS iPad Q & A
Receiving a school iPad is a great opportunity for our students, and we know they are excited about the opportunity. During distribution, we take time to go over the student PDL agreement in detail. Students are also expected to handle their iPads responsibly, so we also take time to cover iPad care and maintenance. The information shared with students at distribution is attached below.
The Technology fees have changed since last year. Please check out the iPad fee information below.
We will meet with all students to go over their responsibilities in using school technology and becoming digital citizens. Every student will go through Digital Citizenship modules to learn to become responsible digital citizens. We want our students to practice safe and appropriate use of technology.
Setting up home guidelines for when technology may be used and how it is used is also an important component to help guide our 21st century learners. It is essential for parents to stay up to date on the latest technology our students are accessing on their personal devices. Help us ensure that our students are prepared to make the right choices in a technological world at their fingertips.
When distributing iPads each year, we take the time to go over iPad Q & A to make sure students understand expectations regarding the use of iPads throughout the school day. Please take some time to look over some of those questions and answers to stay informed about iPad usage at AMS.
More iPad Q & A for parents...
Q. Why was the iPad chosen for this program?
We believe the iPad is the perfect tool for our Middle School students. Students are immediately engaged once the device is placed in their hands. The iPad is able to deliver text, audio, images, and video in a unique and engaging way. We believe students will come to use this tool to organize thoughts and assignments, and the faculty is excited to learn alongside the students. Though the iPad is also the perfect gaming platform, a movie theatre, and television all rolled into one device, we expect these school owned iPads to be used for educational purposes only.
Q. How can students secure their personal information?
Students will be instructed in basic iPad security, and will set a passcode on their iPad to help secure their personal information.
Q. How will Internet access for my student be filtered on the iPad?
iPads issued by the school district will be subject to the same content filtering as computers used in the schools.
Q. What if my student has special needs such as a disability? How do I ensure accommodations are made for their unique needs?
Parents/guardians of students who have a disability should work with their student's IEP manager and/or Section 504 coordinator to determine if any accommodations are needed when using the iPad.
Q. Will there be any training for students/parents?
Yes. Students will learn how to use apps in their subject classes, and the school will offer several workshop opportunities for parents throughout the year. Please check the AMS website and Facebook page for specific dates and times throughout the school year.
Q. How will my child backup the work he/she has created on the iPad?
Students will have several ways in which to make sure their work is backed up. Students can save and sync work to Edmodo or Google Drive from school or home.
Q. Can other people use the iPad during the school day?
No. The iPad is intended to be an individual student tool and the responsibility of a particular student. Borrowing or lending iPads at school is not allowed.
Q. When and how may I use my iPad to record and post images, audio, and video?
We are excited to integrate the capabilities of the iPad in classroom activities. Everything produced on the iPad should show respect for others. Inappropriate use of the iPad to capture images, audio, or video without the permission of the teacher or subject is not allowed. Before posting multimedia files in a public forum, students must seek the permission of their teachers. Please have a conversation with your child about the importance of asking permission before taking video or photos of someone else.
Q. Who can I contact if I have questions?
You can call the school at (843)358-6000 or e-mail your questions to your child’s teachers, our media specialist, Mrs. Danielle West, [email protected], or Mrs. Gina McDonald, our Tech Support Assistant at [email protected]. We are here to help however we can.
