iPad Information
Please take some time to read this information in detail. We plan to distribute iPads to our students beginning Tuesday, September 2nd, of next week. In preparation for distribution, parents MUST assist their child in completing the following steps. All three steps need to be completed by Tuesday morning, September 2, 2014.
1. iPad Permission Slips
iPad permission slips went home by students on Wednesday, August 27th. Another copy was offered to your child on Friday, August 29, 2014. Please sign and return no later than Tuesday, September 2, 2014. Students will not receive an iPad to use at school until this document is signed and returned. We are also providing a link to the document if you wish to print it at home. (iPad Permission & Student Agreement) You may print this, sign it, and have your child return this to his/her homeroom teacher.
2. Apple iTunes Account Creation
All students will create an Apple iTunes account this year. Students thirteen and over will create the accounts at school. Apple sent an email to parents with students under thirteen on Saturday night, August 30th, around 10:00pm. This email asks parents to assist students in creating an Apple iTunes account. This process is very important! To ensure consistency across grade levels, we strongly encourage parents to use the student's school email and password when setting up this account. An email containing this information was sent to a parent's email address on 08/26/14 between 6PM and 7PM from Mrs. Danielle West. If you did not receive the login information, you may email Mrs. West at [email protected] to request your child's information or you may plan to come to the school on Wednesday, September 3rd, any time between 3:00-6:00pm for assistance in setting up this account. Please make sure your child knows his/her Apple iTunes login information and brings it with him/her to school. If you want Mrs. West and Mrs. McDonald to keep a copy of your child's Apple iTunes account information, please submit their account information in this form, Student Apple iTunes Information.) This would help at school if they forget their account information.
3. Take-Home/ Insurance Option ($50.00)
HCS is providing each middle school student with an iPad for use during their middle school experience. We are fortunate to offer a Take-Home/Insurance option this year. Parents have questioned the necessity for purchasing the annual $50 insurance plan. As stated on the HCS website listed below, this insurance will allow students to take the device home.
This optional insurance will cover:
Repair charges are estimated at:
(Note: Actual charges may vary.)
Replacement charges will be based on fair market value of the device (determined by district officials) and will vary with the age of the device. If the insurance support payment creates a financial hardship on the student or parent/guardian, contact your school’s administration about payment options.
If $50 seems like too much at one time, parents may set up a payment plan with the school to pay $20 down and $10 per month for the next three months.
Once the insurance has been purchased, students will be able to use the device at home as well as at school. They will also receive a computer bag and screen protector which will belong to the student. They may have the bag decorated in order to distinguish their device from other students’.
Without the school-owned device, students will not be able to access the student drive where their assignments, files, and other information will be stored.
For more information on the Take-Home/Insurance option, please visit the HCS webpage at HCS Middle School Take-Home Option. You will find a link on this page to complete the Take-Home agreement and pay online. Please also take some time to read over the HCS Personal Mobile Computing Device Guide and Agreement.
You may purchase the insurance online or print the agreement (found under the “Take Home Option” on the HCS Website) and return it to school with a check or cash.
(If you still have questions about the Take-Home option, please watch this video to clarify. This video answers many questions parents have had about this option.)
Thank you for your prompt attention to this matter. If you need assistance with any of the above, please visit the AMS Media Center on Wednesday, September 3rd, from 3:00-6:00pm.
